He made his debut in 1966 in Teatr Polski in Wrocław, then for years he was associated with the Stary Theater in Krakow and the National Theater in Warsaw. He was invited to collaborate by many outstanding theater directors: Kazimierz Dejmek, Mikołaj Grabowski, Jerzy Jarocki, Krystian Lupa, Michał Zadara, Grzegorz Jarzyna. He made his film debut in 1966 in “Marks on the Road”, and his roles that have gone down in history include: Sixtus in “Write and Fight” directed by W. J. Has, The Count Jędruś Łohojski in “Farewell to Autumn” by M. Treliński, Max Bauer in “Korczak” by A. Wajda, Juliusz in ”The Polish Freeloader” by Ł. Wylężałek, Ubu in “King Ubu” by P. Szulkin.

Jan Peszek is an extraordinary actor, which was noticed in the 1960s by Bogusław Schaeffer, a leading representative of the musical avant-garde, writing “The script for non-existent but potential instrumental actor ”. This potential though existing actor is Peszek himself. The text that requires from an artist to be, as Tadeusz Nyczek writes in the Encyclopedia of the Polish Theater, “a trickster, virtuoso, priest and jester in one person”, was written specially for him.

The premiere of this “composition” performed and directed by Jan Peszek took place in 1976. On August 5, the monodrama will be performed at the BNP Paribas Two Riversides Film and Art Festival. Cinema Lesson with Jan Peszek on Wednesday, August 3 at 12:30 in Bursztynowa Hall, 1 Szkolna Street.

The action takes place “in Poland, so nowhere”. Based on the text by Jarry, Piotr Szulkin takes a step back and creates his own variation on the clever but not intellectually sinful ruler thanks to the excellent acting creations of Jan Peszek and Katarzyna Figura. Under the banner of the struggle for freedom and democracy, Ubu bloody takes power and rules, caring only for his own interests.

Farewell to Autumn https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/en/events/farewell-to-autumn/ Wed, 13 Jul 2022 22:27:19 +0000 https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/?post_type=cpt_events&p=41159 Mariusz Treliński’s directorial debut is considered the best adaptation of Witkacy’s prose. The translation of Stanislaw Witkiewicz’s dense, highly sculptural work, with compulsively repeated motives, was carried out by an aesthetically very sensitive young creator, with the support of outstanding Polish actors. The film is permeated by the fear of the collapse of civilization, the disappearance of individual freedom and spiritual needs. The story of the young writer Athanazy Bazakbal, who was unhappily in love with the beautiful and mysterious Helena, is part of the dramatic events of the communist revolution.

Write and Fight https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/en/events/write-and-fight/ Wed, 13 Jul 2022 22:23:51 +0000 https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/?post_type=cpt_events&p=41157 During the First World War, Rafał, a young journalist who wants to become a writer, is put in a prison cell. The fellow prisoners are the famous cashier Szpicbródka and the former monk Sykstus, who murdered the husband of his mistress. In the eyes of the selfish journalist, they automatically become the heroes of his brilliant future novel. The director focuses his attention on the intellectual struggles and peripetitions of the writer. The film is an adaptation of Władysław Terlecki’s prose, the plot often plays into the mind and imagination of the main character.
