Music unites them, it shares practically everything – the place in the social fabric, the view of life, the motivation to act, the work ethic and honesty. “Love songs” are realized with economical means; The picture is black and white, poetic, focuses on the relationship between the main characters. The naturalness, spontaneity and freshness of Habowski’s work awakens associations with the heritage of the French New Wave.

The life of Johanna, who lives in one house with the whole family, is filled with tasks – to fulfill the roles of the ideal mother, daughter, wife, teacher and lover. The last one is a safety valve against the pressure caused by the weight of the expectations of others. But someone discovers her affair and starts to blackmail Johanna. Grzegorzek skilfully brings many emotions to the screen at the same time – the shots are full of joy, anger, sadness, melancholy and humor. One of the protagonists of the film is also Nysa – embedding the plot in a small Polish town lends authenticity to the story.

Kamil lives in the block with his mother and dreams of a career as a rapper. He has an affair with the bored, unhappy, wealthy married woman Iwona. The screenplay is based on Dorota Masłowska’s unique prose, and according to the director: “the most important, but the hardest, thing was to translate the poetry of the verses into the poetry of the images”.

The dictionary definition of the film’s title is “an idealised image of rural life”. Danusia and her daughter Basia live somewhere in Poland, in a farmhouse, and the only way to communicate with the rest of the world are old bicycles. They are symbiotically interwoven with nature, its animals and the spirits of the dead and live according to the rhythm of the day and the seasons. The beautiful, picturesque Pałka’s pictures, however, do not show a rural idyll, but a wooden hut without a bathroom and a longing for contact with other people.

Jaśmina Wójcik draws on documentary film and enriches it with elements of video art, choreography and participatory art. She invites the former employees of one of Europe’s largest tractor plants into the empty, dilapidated halls. In addition to its cinematic or artistic value, the document has a special social value – it gives back a sense of community and meaning to human biographies. The film is reminiscent of the factory not so much of an industrial space as of a human, social space – an attempt to activate the dormant potential in the heroes, who long for the past.
