DESCRIPTION
A very dense political thriller in which religion and power are inseparably linked. Intrigue takes place behind the walls of Cairo’s Al-Azhar Mosque and University, the haven of the Sunni Islam world, and its absolute power centre. The ruthless struggle for the inheritance of the Grand Imam begins immediately after his sudden death in front of the students, on the first day after the summer holidays. Young Adam, who comes to Al-Azhar from a small fishing village, is now in the very eye of such a storm. The Grand Imam should be elected by the Supreme Council of Scholars, which is conclave-like, but the spheres of its influence extend far beyond the thousand-year-old walls of Al-Azhar.

DIRECTOR
— TARIK SALEH (1972), a Swedish television producer, animator, publisher, journalist and film director. He was born in Stockholm to a Swedish mother and an Egyptian father. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was one of Sweden's most prominent graffiti artists. He has also worked as a TV host for Sveriges Television. Tarik Salehs’ thriller "The Nile Hilton Incident" (2017) was awarded at the Sundance FF. His film "Boy from Heaven" (2022) was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes FF.FILMOGRAPHY
