DESCRIPTION
Empress Sisi is one of Vienna’s biggest tourist attractions, her face can be seen on countless souvenirs and the classic film trilogy with Romy Schneider is shown on Austrian TV every Christmas. However, her image stands still in time, director Marie Kreutzer reaches for another moment in the life of the famous character – she shows Elizabeth when she turns 40 and begins to be noticed by her age, not by her achievements or aspirations. Sisi does not want to be squeezed into a rigid corset of expectations and at the same time wants to protect her legacy.

DIRECTOR
— MARIE KREUTZER (1977), screenwriter and director, is one of Austria's most important and established filmmakers, known for unique, fabulous mix of the serious with laughter in her pictures. Graduated from an alternative high school with a focus on the arts. She studied scriptwriting and dramaturgy at the Vienna Film Academy. For the feature "Fräulein" (dir. Andrea Staka) she and her co-writers were awarded a Swiss Film Prize for Best Screenplay, while the film itself took the Golden Leopard for Best Film at Locarno. Since 2000 she has shot seven shorts. "The Fatherless" (2011) is her feature film directorial debut. The latest "Corsage" (2022) was presented at the Cannes FF in the section "Un Certain Regard".FILMOGRAPHY
