DESCRIPTION
Mariusz Treliński’s directorial debut is considered the best adaptation of Witkacy’s prose. The translation of Stanislaw Witkiewicz’s dense, highly sculptural work, with compulsively repeated motives, was carried out by an aesthetically very sensitive young creator, with the support of outstanding Polish actors. The film is permeated by the fear of the collapse of civilization, the disappearance of individual freedom and spiritual needs. The story of the young writer Athanazy Bazakbal, who was unhappily in love with the beautiful and mysterious Helena, is part of the dramatic events of the communist revolution.
