DESCRIPTION
Alfred Jarry in 1896’s “Ubu the King” generously uses grotesque and absurdity and parodies Shakespeare. The action takes place “in Poland, so nowhere”. Based on the text by Jarry, Piotr Szulkin takes a step back and creates his own variation on the clever but not intellectually sinful ruler thanks to the excellent acting creations of Jan Peszek and Katarzyna Figura. Under the banner of the struggle for freedom and democracy, Ubu bloody takes power and rules, caring only for his own interests.

DIRECTOR
— PIOTR SZULKIN (1950-2018) Polish director, screenwriter, visual artist, book author, actor, professor of film arts and university teacher. He has directed films as well as theater and television productions and was also performing as an actor. Szulkin is considered one of the most original Polish directors. He is best known for his science fiction tetralogy, in which he smuggled analogies to totalitarian systems. He enriched the means of expression inherent to sci-fi works with plastic expression and a specific oneiricity.
