DESCRIPTION
GRA – Grande Raccordo Anulare is a sixty-eight-kilometers major freeway that circles Rome. Countless stories and films were dedicated to the Eternal City itself. Gianfranco Rosi turned the camera’s eye to the search for stories that unfold at its own pace, different from the hustle and bustle of the capital. Rosie’s heroes live a colourful life, filled with both small pleasures and drama. The director for his loving story about the outskirts of Rome won a Golden Lion in 2013 at the IFF main Competition in Venice. For the first time in history of Venice IFFs’ this award has been given for a documentary film.

DIRECTOR
— GIANFRANCO ROSI (1963), Italian film director and cinematographer. Each of his films is based on years of fieldwork, with a camera very close to his characters. He portrays important, current issues that impress the imagination and deter the audience from the usual patterns of perception. Each of his six films has been screened at international film festivals and was appreciated by film critics and audiences. Rosi is the only documentary filmmaker to win top awards at two A-list festivals with documentary films, the Golden Lion at Venice with "Sacro GRA" (2013) and the Golden Bear at the Berlinale with "Fire at Sea" (2016).FILMOGRAPHY
